Conditioned warehouse space carries a real premium, and plenty of products do not need it. A week of measurement and a little arithmetic will tell you which side your inventory falls on.
"Climate-controlled" is one of the most loosely used phrases in warehousing. It can mean a room held within a tight temperature band by a monitored system, or it can mean a corner of a building that happens to have air conditioning. The difference matters, because you pay a real premium for the first one and get very little from the second.
Before you go shopping for it, it is worth establishing whether your product needs it at all. Plenty of goods that sellers assume require conditioned space do fine in a well-built ambient warehouse, and a few that seem robust quietly degrade every summer.
Temperature is only one of four variables, and often not the one doing the damage:
That last point is the one sellers miss most often. A product that sits at a steady 30°C is frequently in better shape than one that cycles between 12°C and 28°C every day, because each cycle deposits moisture on and inside the packaging.
You do not need a laboratory to get a usable answer.

Conditioned space is priced higher per pallet position for straightforward reasons: the room costs more to build and insulate, it runs continuously, and it is finite in a way ambient space usually is not. Two consequences follow.
The first is that partial adoption is normal and sensible. Very few catalogues need every SKU conditioned. Splitting your inventory — conditioned for the sensitive lines, ambient for everything else — is usually the right answer, and it means your storage media choices differ across the two zones. The second is that conditioned space is genuinely scarce, so availability moves seasonally. If your peak need is summer, asking in May is late.

That last question is worth pressing on. Goods with real storage sensitivity usually also need date or batch discipline, which is a separate capability again — the mechanics of that are covered in lot codes, expiry dates and FEFO.
If your logger data shows a moderate problem rather than a severe one, several measures cost far less than conditioned space: moving stock off exterior walls and away from dock doors, dropping sensitive SKUs from high rack levels where heat collects, adding desiccant inside cases, upgrading to a moisture-barrier inner bag, insulating pallet covers, and simply holding less inventory of the affected lines so nothing sits long enough to degrade.
None of these will save a product with a genuinely narrow storage window. All of them will help a product that is merely being stored carelessly.
The honest version of this decision is short. Get the manufacturer's range, measure your real conditions against it, price your actual losses, and buy conditioned space only where the numbers say so. Guessing in either direction is expensive: sellers who skip it write off stock they blame on suppliers, and sellers who over-buy it pay a premium on pallets that would have been fine on a normal rack.
